If you want to rip DVDs but don’t know how to do then keep calm and read this article. Today I will teach you how to Rip DVDs using simple and easily available software known as VLC.

The only thing required is VideoLan Card and you should have 0.9.6 version or higher because for older versions this procedure would not work. I am making a tutorial on 2.2.1 but it is also applicable to 0.9.6 and higher.

For learning how to rip DVD using older VLC see second part of article. After learning this article you would be able to convert your DVDs to any format like mpeg, mp3 and many more and then use them to upload to your YouTube channels or anywhere else.

Step 1:

Open VLC and go to media tab and click on it.

Step 2:

You will see an option in the drop down menu named as convert/save. This option is not available in older versions and the method is entirely different.

Step 3:

A new window will appear that would be showing different tabs. By default it is on file tab. You have to switch to DVD tab. See the picture below.

Step4:

You need to find the DVD you want to convert.

Now you need to set the initial and final position from here.

Click on the convert and save option below the window.

Step 6:

Now you need to set the destination folder on the next window and hit start. You can also set the format in which you want to convert your files. As shown in the figure VLC can convert it to a number of format. It has MP4, WEBM, TS, MP3, OGG, ASF and many other formats.

So our DVD is ripped now.

For older versions you need to go for different options.

Select open disk option.

 

You will see a window with multiple tabs on it. There is a capture device tab click on it. On clicking this tab you need to go for advanced options. After this option you would be required to do some setting according to your need. Uncheck the play locally button and then check the box that is next to file. Browse for the file set the file name and don’t forget to put a file extension. You can convert to mpeg or mp3 format. Then click ok and move on.
After clicking ok go to main tab at VLC and again go to media tab and select streaming and now you can watch your video.
